Who are wall mounted spice racks good for?
These are a great solution for small kitchens, because it frees up your shelves for other purposes.
Also a fantastic option for those who cook regularly with spices. Having them stored in spice jars on the wall keeps them in easy reach so you don’t have to go fumbling through a cabinet or pantry.
Who are wall spice racks NOT good for?
If you have young children, you might need to ensure that the spices are kept out of reach of curious hands. Though the fantastic mess your toddler might make in the kitchen would make a great FaceBook photo!
Note, also, that some spices have a longer shelf life when kept in the dark.
If you go through spices rapidly having them up on the wall exposed to light won’t matter. If your spices tend to linger for years, perhaps you might consider storing just the most commonly used ones on the wall. You could then store the lesser used, and light sensitive, herbs and spices away in a dark drawer or cabinet.
What to look out for
Most of the wall spice racks do not include the bottles or the spices, but have the rack only. So measure the size of the spice bottles you already own and look for a shelving unit that would neatly store those bottles
If you are planning to attach the rack to a wall, check that it comes with the hardware needed for mounting. Also keep in mind whether you will be able to attach screws to the surface of the wall you want to install the rack.
